Galanova Universe

Lore · Who lives here

The Peoples

The player fantasy for Galanova is a galaxy that keeps getting bigger, explored through a roster of species that keeps growing with it. This is who is in it so far.

A living god is also ground to stand on. These peoples live on the back of one.

  • The Ceta

Space whales, and sapient — they speak.

Too large to travel with anyone, because they are the ships. Equipment mounted on a Ceta is absorbed and integrated rather than bolted on.

  • The Cani

    Sapient dogs.

Trael is an overgrown golden Cani.

  • Ganorok

Pachyderm-like giants, slow and immovable, gifted alongside the Surok by Alaaga.

They look to most beings as though they are made of stone. They aren't — they are natural masters of biomancy, and their flesh is heavily engineered. An individual grows into one of three forms: warrior, craftsman, or matron.

  • Surok

Slender, athletic, tan-skinned and dark-haired; adaptable generalists, uplifted alongside the Ganorok.

  • Primok

Great apes — powerful, tribal, quick of hand.

  • Ursi

Sapient bear-folk. Slow, deep-souled sages of great endurance.

Newly capable of faster-than-light travel, and carrying a long history with each other.

  • Sylvari

Magic-wielding elvenkind and tamers of dragons, of the Sylvari system.

Long enslaved by the Korribak. Caelith was borne out of what was done to them.

  • Korribak

Brutal by nature and red in everything — skin, ridges, temper. Facial tentacles and heavy bone ridges.

Of Korribak Prime and Korribak II, and a former empire that once held the Sylvari as slaves.

Peoples of the core worlds, the freight lanes and the colonies.

  • Sephir

Blue-skinned, six-eyed humanoids of Meyn-Sephir. They built the machines that commune with the Liquimetal God, then built faster-than-light travel, and they dominate the senate.

Six eyes in three vertical pairs down a tall, gently narrow head. Skin greys the farther from Meyn-Sephir a Sephir lives — which is how you spot a colonist.

  • Trob

Large, rangy and tusked. One half of a counterpart pair with the Gob.

  • Gob

Small, quick and cunning. The other half.

  • Glut

Pink-purple industrialist magnates — corpulent, jowled, and firmly bipedal.

Greedy acquirers of factories, freight lines and favours, thriving under the de-facto rule of the Sephir. Durable, silver-tongued and shrewd; ponderous and fat-fingered.

  • Saun

Tall, spindly, ghost-pale and earless. Philosophers, scientists and historians — frail of body, formidable of mind.

  • Phiffin

Part frog, part insectoid, and craftsmen by inclination. Spindly and deft, with a wide amphibian head and crown-set eyes.

  • Hronga

Otter-like furred mammals — sleek, agile and sociable.

  • Nythox

Dark, chitinous insectoid necromancers. Unsettling, and clever.

  • Mudgin

Small, misshapen frog-folk of purple-brown hide, with one eye and one leg.

Not clever, and sapient anyway. The Republic's least-regarded citizens: they hop, and they endure.

Not native to this galaxy. They arrive as individuals rather than armies, and mostly get mistaken for someone else.

  • Orc

Not from here. Hurled in through the chaos warp from another dimension.

Routinely mistaken for Trob, who they superficially resemble. The tell is the skull — wider, angular, not tapering — and a full lower jaw of jagged teeth instead of tusks.

  • Grekin

The other arrival, and mistaken for Gob just as often.

    Greener, with small single-pointed ears.

The roster is open, and it grows in the universe bible before it grows here. New peoples get added there by the author, not invented on a website.

Three of these peoples carry family names — the Sephir, the Korribak and the Sylvari. Everyone else goes by one name. For the Korribak a surname is the imperial house a bloodline served under the old slaver empire, which some carry as pedigree and others carry as a brand.
